About

Hey, I'm Erin!

Welcome to my cozy nook within the internet!

As an indie author, editor, and book coach, I've worked with writers for 20 years. Thanks to my personal experience and master's in writing, I have a 4-stage process that takes newer and aspiring authors from struggling with overwhelm to finishing their manuscripts in 6 months.

In short, I teach authors how to untangle their jumbled ideas so they can finish their first draft and publish their books with confidence.

I'm also the host of the Embracing the Fiction Author Journey podcast, formerly known as Parents Who Write.

My Mission and Core Values

Compassion

Imposter syndrome and other life challenges are real, and I'm here to help you move forward and reach your next goal with compassion and understanding.

Honesty

I might not tell you what you want to hear, but my feedback will always be honest and delivered with explanations so you can make informed decisions.

Encouragement

You can write and publish your book. No matter what lies ahead, we'll face it together—because your goals are valid. You are worth seeing this through.

Collaboration

You never have to fear I'll tell you how to write your story. When I offer feedback, I first identify your goal and then explain what's helping, what's distracting from that goal, and why.

Sustainability

I'm always teaching my clients new skills and techniques they can implement themselves next time. The goal is to set you up for success so you can confidently do this on your own going forward.

Accountability

How many memes have you seen about writers dreaming of writing but getting distracted by something else? Accountability is crucial to helping us show up for ourselves.

Fun (and slightly embarrassing) facts!

Let's connect and chat via social media. In the meantime, here are some fun and random facts about me:

I love and have studied most genres, but my all time favorite books are Pride & Prejudice and To Kill a Mockingbird.

During a high school band trip to CA, I fell out of a tree and dislocated my knee. For years, my friends would shout "Tree!" to warn me to stay away. (I still love trees.)

I taught myself Japanese, then studied it in college. When I was 20, I visited Japan and stayed with my friend's family in a small village in Niigata. Wearing a yukata and going to the street festival are some of my favorite memories.

When I was little, I used to dream about the person I'd marry, that he'd be my best friend and I'd feel safe with him. I never imagined his face, but I named him David. I met my husband when I was 29. He's still my best friend and the love of my life; his name also happens to be David.

My favorite comfort food is Ben & Jerry's The Tonight Dough.

My favorite childhood cartoons (and first introductions to fantasy romance) were Sleeping Beauty, The Little Mermaid, and Sailor Moon. (I'll always be a Moonie.)

My favorite genre will always be fantasy and romantasy, which I write. Learn about my series, The Elves of Aerytol, at erinptcanningauthor.com.
